Chilling Reign

Chilling Reign is the first-ever set of Pokémon cards released in the Sword & Shield era of the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). Released in June 2021, the set introduced many new mechanics and brought back some classic ones, alongside popular TAG TEAM Pokémon cards. It debuted the Special Energy mechanic and included rare full-art Trainer cards. Chilling Reign featured over 175 cards, bringing in new TAG TEAM Pokémon cards, Pokémon VMAX cards and powerful new Trainer cards. It had eleven new TAG TEAM Pokémon cards, including the Gigantamax versions of the legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta. It also featured several Trainer cards with full art illustrations, such as Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble. In addition, the set featured sixteen new Pokémon V and VMAX cards, which are powerful versions of popular Pokémon. Like other Sword & Shield sets, Chilling Reign included Energy cards and types that have been featured in the TCG for many years. Unique to this set are the Special Energy cards, which provide multiple functions. These cards feature various symbols and text to specify their effects. Additionally, the set introduced Galar Pokémon such as Yamper, Impidimp and Coalossal, as well as the Legendary Pokémon Calyrex. Finally, the set included powerful Trainer cards such as Combat Commander, which allowed users to search their deck for up to three basic Energy cards. Overall, Chilling Reign was a well-rounded and powerful set of Pokémon cards that introduced many of the features and mechanics seen in the Sword & Shield era of the TCG.
