Our Story
Pokemon Wizard didn't start in a boardroom. It started on Christmas morning, with two excited kids, a Premier Ball tin, and one pull that nobody saw coming.
He wasn't a Pokémon guy. He was a dad.
Our founder is a father of two — a former sports card kid who had long since packed away anything with a Pikachu on it. But kids have a way of dragging you back into things you thought you'd outgrown.
Christmas 2020. On the list from Santa: Pokémon cards. Sounds easy. Walk into Target, grab something, done. Except nothing about it was easy — hundreds of sets, waves of knockoffs, Amazon pages full of garbage, and zero guidance for a dad operating on zero Pokémon knowledge. Grandmas and aunts didn't stand a chance.
Christmas morning came anyway. Under the tree: a Premier Ball tin. The kids tore into it — pack by pack, card by card — and then one card came out of the pile and made everyone stop talking.
M Rayquaza EX — 98/98, Ancient Origins. Hyper Rare.
Iridescent. Full-art. Unmistakably different from every other card in the pile. A quick search confirmed what instinct already suspected: this was the best possible pull from that entire set. Worth around $30 at the time, and still one of the most iconic cards in the format.
A random Premier Ball tin. Ripped open on Christmas morning. Best pull in the set.
"What are the odds?"
If someone figures it out, let us know.
That pull changed everything. One card, and suddenly we were all-in — researching sets, buying more packs, tracking prices, watching pack-opening videos at midnight. We were collectors. There was no going back.
A new hobby. A global pandemic. A software engineer with too much free time.
March 2020. The world stopped. With time to spare and a brand-new obsession with Pokémon TCG, we ran into the same wall every serious collector hits eventually: the data problem. There was no clean place to track prices the way you'd track a stock. No dashboard showing which sets were climbing, which were cooling, what to crack versus what to hold sealed.
So we built one.
What started as a pandemic side project grew into PokemonWizard.com — a platform that combines our love of family, collecting, market data, and Pokémon into something we actually want to use every day. We track 23,000+ cards with live market prices, monitor sealed product trends, publish set analyses and investment guides, and surface the kind of insights that used to require hours of spreadsheet work.
Built by collectors, for collectors. Always free. Always improving.
We're just getting started.
We're software engineers, managers, fathers, husbands, and Pokémon enthusiasts — and we're building this for every collector who's ever wanted the kind of market intelligence that the serious players have always had but never shared.
Whether you're opening packs with your kids on Christmas morning, speculating on sealed product, trying to figure out what that card from your childhood is worth, or building a collection with real strategy behind it — this is for you.
More is coming: collection tracking, portfolio tools, deeper analytics, and features we haven't announced yet. If you have an idea, a request, or just want to say hello — we read every message.
Thank you for being part of this.
