Neo Genesis

Pokémon Card Set Neo Genesis was the first expansion set of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It was released in December 2000 to introduce the concept of Basic and Evolution Pokémon cards. The set contained eigh ty different Basic Pokémon cards, including all of the original 151 Pokémon as seen in the games Red and Blue, as well as 29 Evolution cards. This set also introduced the very rare and extremely powerful Pokémon LEGEND cards. In addition to the different Pokémon cards, Neo Genesis also contained five Trainer cards and seven Energy cards. The set contained a total of 121 cards, with each card having a unique holofoil finish. Neo Genesis featured predominantly Grass, Water and Psychic types.

The art style of this set was based on the pixel style seen in the video games of the time, featuring 2D pixel art in order to maintain consistency with the original game. The cards in this set were printed with the standard 8-symbol holofoil design, which consisted of 4 small dots in the corners of the card, and 4 larger round dots in the middle of the card. Holo non-Sports cards were also included in this set, featuring foil stamped art of various popular Pokémon.
